What Does Santa Fe Trail Historical Society of Douglas Co. Do?

Our byline is “promoting, protecting, and preserving history in the Baldwin and Vinland areas and along the Santa Fe Trail since 1967.”

In general, we:

  • Provide care and maintenance of Baldwin, Vinland, and other Southern Douglas County historical sites such as: The Walking Trail at the Black Jack Wagon Ruts at Ivan Boyd Prairie, Signal Oak site, Clearfield Schoolhouse, Vinland Grange, Black Jack Historical Cabin, Palmyra Well site, Trail Park site, markers/signs along the Santa Fe Trail, & more.
  • Provide educational offerings and interactions with local community, schools, and organizations about local and Trail history.
    • Includes at least two guest speakers with social event each year (Feb. & Sept.)
  • Maintain a website to share local and Trail history beyond the Baldwin area.
  • Partner with the National Santa Fe Trail Association (http://www.santafetrail.org) to promote and care for the entire Trail.
  • Partner with local resources (Baldwin City Public Library, Baker University, Douglas County) to collect, preserve, maintain, and share the history and historical documents of our area.
