  • Prairie City Cemetery was organized in 1855 by the town of Prairie City.
  • Located SW of current Baldwin City.
  • Initially served the people who settled in and around the town of Prairie City, Kansas Territory. Open to the general public.
  • As Baldwin City formed and grew, the cemetery continued to serve the surrounding communities.
  • This cemetery and the adjoining Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery are the only remaining remnants of Prairie City open to the public today.
  • The Prairie City Cemetery Association, or PCCA, owns, controls, and manages the cemetery, and has since 1879.
  • PCCA is a not-for-profit organization and not affiliated with any church, organization, or the city, county, or state. 
  • The cemetery was recently approved to complete the nomination forms for placement of the National and State Registers of Historic Places – a big honor!
