Rehabilitation Projects – 2023-24

Grange Hall, Vinland, KS

Grange Hall – West View – front, lower level

The curvature of the west window sills indicates settling in the west wall.  Santa Fe Trail Historical Society (SFTHS) has acquired a grant from Douglas County, thanks to the ARPA (American Recovery Plan Act) to construct a concrete footing under the west wall, wrapping around on both sides to stabilize the wall for decades to come.  The concrete front porch floor will also be rebuilt.

We will have new wooden frame screen windows made for the upstairs windows.  This will give the antique glass some protection from hail and other debris while still allowing ventilation during use.

Grange Hall, Vinland, KS – North View – 2022

The concrete steps to the second floor on the east end have been crumbling for several years.  SFTHS has acquired a Heritage Trust Fund grant from the Kansas Historical Society and will re-construct these stairs during the same timeframe as the west wall stabilization project.

Our goal is to complete both projects by the end of 2024.
